Knightley was born in London she was her parents being Will Knightley and Sharman Mcdonald. She was first spotted by an agent at six years old. She began her career in commercials and TV. Knightley played Sabe in a minor character in Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1998). After gaining international fame in the fantasy series Pirates of the Caribbean in 2003 as Elizabeth Swann (a swashbuckling footballer) and was able to debut as a character in the film sports Bend It Like Beckham in where she played a tomboy. In her role as Elizabeth Bennet in the period romance Pride & Prejudice (2005), Knightley was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. As well as Atonement and Pride & Prejudice, she also played in the role of Georgiana Cavendish, the tastemaker on The Duchess and Anna Karenina's character in the title socialite. She forayed into contemporary dramas and acted as an ambitious musician in Begin Again (2013) and as a Medical student for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014). Knightley was back in historical movies playing Joan Clarke in The Imitation Game (2014) and earned her an award nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, and starred as the eponymous writer in Colette (2018).
